RJ Young’s Top 25 Showdown: Can Alabama Shake Up the Texas vs. Georgia Showdown?

RJ Young's Top 25 rankings vs. AP Top 25 Poll: Will Bama spoil Texas-Georgia debate?

Georgia remains the top team until someone manages to defeat them. However, the recent game footage against Kentucky is now available, and Alabama is sure to analyze it meticulously over the next two weeks. Their goal will be to challenge Georgia and demand that they justify their No. 1 ranking.

Texas gained an advantage by decisively defeating UTSA, while Georgia faced significant challenges against Kentucky. At this early stage of the season, the debate over who deserves the No. 1, No. 2, or No. 3 spots is subjective, as long as it includes Texas, Georgia, and Ohio State in some order. If the decision is to penalize UGA for barely overcoming UK—let’s call it Brexit—then so be it.

With players like Milroe and Ryan Williams, Alabama’s offense is firing on all cylinders. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them launching aggressive plays against Georgia, reminiscent of iconic moments in sports cinema. Alabama is just two weeks away from potentially snatching the No. 1 ranking from Georgia.

As for Boston College? Their presence has been fleeting. Arizona? It’s time to return to the desert.

Illinois and Northern Illinois? They should get ready for their moment in the spotlight. It’s time to put their rankings to the test and see who can rise to the occasion.

After the AP Top 25 Poll was released on Sunday, three key observations stood out:

1. Arch Mania has arrived

Arch Manning made a significant impact after coming off the bench—what a performance!

He completed 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and even sprinted 67 yards for a touchdown, showcasing his talent just like his grandfather did.

This performance reinforces why he was ranked as the top player in the 2023 class.

If the buzz surrounding Shedeur Sanders is intense, it’s nothing compared to the excitement surrounding Arch. He has become a phenomenon in football, captivating fans much like a pop star does.

2. Nebraska is acting like it’s 2016

The last time Nebraska started the season 3-0, they went on to win their first seven games, finishing with a 9-4 record and achieving a high ranking of No. 7 nationally.

Under Matt Rhule in his second year, the atmosphere feels reminiscent of that successful season.

3. All money ain’t good money

Toledo’s victory over Mississippi State, 41-17, is notable not just for the score, but because the Bulldogs paid $1.2 million for the opportunity to play.

It’s a stark reminder that sometimes, big investments don’t yield the expected returns.

Memphis also surprised Florida State with a 20-12 victory, costing the Seminoles $1.3 million.

Northern Illinois’ win over Notre Dame, 16-14, came at a steep price of $1.4 million for the Fighting Irish.

And Kent State’s 71-0 defeat at the hands of Tennessee cost them $1.35 million.

That 71-point loss serves as a harsh lesson in the financial risks of college football.
