Pac-12 reportedly is in talks with Gonzaga, a renowned basketball institution, to join the conference in 2026. According to various reports, The Action Network indicated that Gonzaga had tentatively agreed to the move. However, CBS Sports and The Athletic later clarified that while negotiations are active, a definitive agreement had not been finalized as of Monday afternoon.
In a related development, Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, UTSA, and the American Athletic Conference issued a statement that did not specifically mention the Pac-12. Nonetheless, it hinted at ongoing recruitment efforts aimed at several of these institutions, suggesting that they may be considering a shift to the rebuilding Pac-12.
The schools expressed, “While we acknowledge receiving interest in our institutions from other conferences, we firmly believe that it is in our individual and collective best interests to uphold our commitment to each other.” They emphasized their intention to modernize the conference, enhance the student-athlete experience, achieve championship-level success, and build a promising future.
Recently, the Pac-12 has taken significant steps to replenish its ranks for a relaunch in 2026 by securing the commitments of Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Colorado State from the Mountain West. These additions will join Washington State and Oregon State, the only remaining members of the Pac-12 following a dramatic realignment period.
