Ed Cooley Dismisses Virginia Job Speculation: Committed to Georgetown

Georgetown's Ed Cooley shuts down rumors about Virginia job: 'I'm where I need to be'

Georgetown’s Ed Cooley has firmly dismissed rumors linking him to the head coaching position at Virginia. In an exclusive interview with FOX Sports, he clarified that there is “zero truth” to such speculation and reaffirmed his commitment to the Hoyas, stating, “I’m where I need to be. I’m where I want to be.”

Cooley expressed that coaching Georgetown is not just a job for him; it’s a realization of a long-held dream. He emphatically stated, “This will be the last college job I have,” indicating his desire to build a lasting legacy within the program.

He emphasized the significance of his role, saying, “That is all false news, and it’s unfortunate that people jeopardize livelihoods.” Cooley’s passion for Georgetown basketball shines through as he asserts, “I’m living my dream, and that’s as a Georgetown Hoya.”

Despite a challenging inaugural season that saw the Hoyas finish with a 9-23 record and a tough 2-18 mark in Big East play, Cooley is determined to turn the program around. He acknowledges the need for rebuilding as they enter the 2024-25 season, facing the task of replacing four out of five starters from the previous year.

The team will retain its leading scorer, Jayden Epps, who averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 assists last season. Cooley is optimistic that Epps can foster chemistry with a promising freshman class that includes Thomas Sorber, a highly regarded 6-foot-10 prospect from Philadelphia, along with Julius Halaifonua and Kayvaun Mulready.

Cooley aims to revitalize Georgetown basketball, stating, “My goal is to make Georgetown basketball powerful again and inspire other people.” With the season opener against Lehigh scheduled for November 6, the Hoyas look to build momentum under Cooley’s leadership.
