Christian Pulisic believes that Mauricio Pochettino’s potential appointment as the new head coach of the United States men’s national team is “good news.” The talented forward expressed his enthusiasm for the change, highlighting the opportunity for the team to improve and prepare effectively for the upcoming World Cup.
In an interview with CBS, Pulisic stated, “I think it’s for a change and for us to take another step and really improve as a team. Leading up to this World Cup, we need to find some good results and build momentum.” His comments reflect a collective hope among players for a fresh approach as they gear up for international competition.
Yunus Musah, Pulisic’s teammate at AC Milan, also voiced his support for Pochettino’s rumored hiring. He believes that the renowned manager’s extensive experience with elite clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain could greatly benefit the USMNT. Musah remarked, “When I saw the news, it was nice to see that a manager like Pochettino, who’s coached a lot of top teams, agreed to coach us.”
Musah added, “If he becomes our manager, it will help a lot. He’s a manager that’s worked with top players, so he definitely has a lot of things to teach us.” This sentiment underscores the players’ eagerness for new guidance and strategies as they aim to elevate their performance on the global stage.
The USMNT is scheduled to compete in friendly matches against Canada and New Zealand on September 7 and September 10, respectively. Should Pochettino not be officially announced before these games, U.S. Soccer’s U-20 men’s coach Mikey Vargas will likely take charge for this window. This period may serve as a crucial time for the team to adapt to new strategies and build cohesion ahead of the World Cup.
