CeeDee Lamb is reportedly asking the Dallas Cowboys to increase their extension offer, which currently stands at $33 million per year. This proposed salary would position him as one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, just behind Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, who earns $35 million annually.
Despite the lucrative offer, Lamb has not shown interest in signing the deal. Sources indicate that his concerns extend beyond the average annual salary; he is also seeking improvements in the cash flow and guaranteed money associated with the contract.
At just 25 years old, Lamb has opted out of Cowboys training camp and did not participate in any offseason practices, as he approaches the final year of his rookie contract. With the regular season on the horizon, the urgency for both parties to finalize a deal is palpable.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently stated that the team is “not urgent about CeeDee returning,” a comment that prompted Lamb to respond with a lighthearted “lol” on social media, stirring a reaction among fans and analysts alike.
In an effort to clarify his earlier statement, Jones emphasized the importance of Lamb to the team. “CeeDee, you’re missed, OK? But you’re not missed out here competing,” he said during the Cowboys’ pregame show. This statement aimed to alleviate any tension surrounding Lamb’s absence.
A few days later, Jones assured ESPN that both sides are “conscientiously working to get something done.” He expressed a mutual desire for Lamb to remain a Dallas Cowboy, indicating that the organization values his contributions.
Coming off a standout season where he led the NFL with 135 receptions and amassed 1,749 receiving yards, Lamb’s performance has solidified his status as a vital asset for the Cowboys. He also ranked third in receiving touchdowns with 12, showcasing his impact on the field.
As Lamb navigates his contract situation, he is not the only key player in the Cowboys’ lineup seeking an extension. Quarterback Dak Prescott is also entering the final year of his contract, while linebacker Micah Parsons has become eligible for an extension this offseason. Head coach Mike McCarthy is similarly in the last year of his deal.
Prescott’s contract negotiations may be the next priority for the Cowboys. Jones mentioned ongoing discussions with Prescott, indicating that the team is committed to retaining their star quarterback.
Clarence Hill Jr., a reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, shared insights on Prescott’s expectations. He noted that Prescott is unlikely to settle for a subpar deal, emphasizing his responsibility to his family and fellow quarterbacks to secure a favorable contract.
