UConn and coach Dan Hurley have solidified their partnership with a new six-year, $50 million contract extension announced on Monday. This extension, which will keep Hurley coaching the Huskies until the 2029-30 season, is a pivotal move for the program. Known for rebuilding UConn into a championship team, Hurley expressed his honor in representing the institution and promised to continue the pursuit of national titles.
Hurley declined a lucrative offer from the Los Angeles Lakers in June, choosing instead to focus on UConn. With an impressive record of 141-58 and two consecutive national championships under his belt, Hurley’s decision reflects his commitment to achieving historic success with the Huskies. The Lakers subsequently appointed JJ Redick as their head coach.
Under his updated contract, Hurley will receive a base salary of $400,000 annually, supplemented by additional compensation for various obligations, starting at $6.375 million for the 2024-25 season. The deal also includes a $1 million per year retention bonus, securing Hurley’s future with UConn as he aims for unprecedented achievements in NCAA men’s basketball.
