Tyrese Maxey Secures $204M Five-Year Deal with Philadelphia 76ers

Tyrese Maxey Inks Five-Year, $204M Contract Extension

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey has reached an agreement on a five-year, $204 million maximum contract extension, according to sources from ESPN. This substantial deal follows a year-long wait by Maxey and his agents, Rich Paul and Mark Murray of Klutch Sports, who strategically delayed the agreement to help the Sixers optimize their salary cap. At just 23, Maxey has cemented himself as a vital player for Philadelphia with his breakthrough All-Star season.

Coming Saturday, once the NBA’s free agency signing moratorium ends, Maxey can officially sign his contract. Notably, this deal does not include any option clauses. With an average of 25.9 points and 6.2 assists last season, Maxey has become the cornerstone of the Sixers’ future. His performance, particularly nearly averaging 30 points per game during the opening-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks, underscores his importance.

Drafted 21st overall from Kentucky in the 2020 NBA draft, Maxey has quickly blossomed into one of the league’s brightest young stars. Over four seasons with the Sixers, he’s maintained an average of 18.2 points per game. His ascension positions him as a key link between All-NBA center Joel Embiid and the newly acquired All-NBA forward Paul George, making him indispensable to the franchise’s success.
