Sixers Confirm Joel Embiid’s Season End as Left Knee Injury Takes Its Toll

Sixers rule out Joel Embiid for remainder of season due to lingering left knee injury

Joel Embiid’s season has officially concluded. The Philadelphia 76ers confirmed on Friday that their star center will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a persistent left knee injury, which has already kept him off the court for 40 games this year.

While a specific treatment plan is still pending, Embiid is scheduled for further evaluations to determine the appropriate next steps, according to the team’s announcement.

This season, Embiid averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists across 19 games. He recently secured a lucrative three-year contract extension with the Sixers worth $193 million in September 2024, which will provide him an average annual salary of $64.3 million through the 2028-29 season.

Currently, the 76ers sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 20-38. However, they remain within striking distance of the Play-In Tournament, trailing by just 2.5 games for the No. 10 seed.
