Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, the leading quarterbacks projected for the 2025 NFL Draft, have officially announced their decision to skip workouts at this week’s highly anticipated scouting combine.
This announcement aligns with their earlier statements, where both players indicated that they would not participate in on-field drills during the combine, which will see quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers take the stage at Lucas Oil Stadium.
This trend of quarterbacks opting out of workouts is not new. They join a notable list of players who have chosen to forgo these drills, including past No. 1 overall picks like Caleb Williams, Bryce Young, and Joe Burrow.
Sanders and Ward, who fostered a competitive spirit during their time as Pac-12 rivals, have substantial game footage to showcase their skills. Each quarterback has started over 50 games across various colleges, demonstrating their experience and resilience.
Sanders played a pivotal role in revitalizing the football program at Jackson State in Mississippi before transferring to Colorado to continue his journey under the guidance of his father, Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders.
Ward set an impressive NCAA record with 158 touchdown passes while playing for Incarnate Word in Texas, later moving on to Washington State and finishing his college career at Miami.
In the previous season, Sanders earned the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, while Ward was honored as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and secured a fourth-place finish in the Heisman Trophy voting.
