He entered PNC Park wearing a Giants Willie Mays jersey, signed by Mays himself. This heartfelt gesture captivated baseball fans and reaffirmed McCutchen’s status as a class act in the sport.
McCutchen, who once idolized Mays, spoke about the lasting impact Mays had on the game. "Before Rickey Henderson and all these great center fielders, there was Willie Mays," McCutchen remarked. Fortunately, McCutchen had the chance to form a bond with Mays before the legend passed away at 93. This relationship remained one of McCutchen’s most cherished experiences from his brief stint with the San Francisco Giants in 2018.
