Knicks Secure Tyler Kolek in Savvy Second-Round Trade Up at NBA Draft

Knicks Make Draft Moves for Tyler Kolek and More

The Knicks moved up in the draft to pick Tyler Kolek, a seasoned 23-year-old guard from Marquette, known for leading the NCAA in assists and averaging 15.3 points per game last season. Kolek, with his four years of college experience, contrasts with the Knicks’ earlier first-round pick, 18-year-old Pacome Dadiet from France.

Kolek has a history of competitive play, notably against Villanova, where he scored a career-high 32 points and embraced the hostility from rival fans. The Knicks’ roster already features four Villanova NCAA champions, and Kolek could potentially serve as a backup for Jalen Brunson due to his playmaking skills.

In addition to Kolek, the Knicks selected Kevin McCullar Jr., a solid defender from Kansas, and Ariel Hukporti, a center from Germany, rounding out their second-round picks in the draft. The Knicks’ strategic choices reflect their need for skilled ball-handlers and experienced players to enhance their roster.
