Updated College Basketball Projections for 2024-25: Big Ten Spotlight
Over the weekend, college basketball analytics expert Bart Torvik unveiled updated projections for the 2024-25 season. Utilizing the Basketball Player Metric (BPM) has caused noticeable shifts in team projections, making this update particularly significant. BPM estimates a player’s contribution to the team based on traditional box score data, such as points, rebounds, and assists.
Big Ten teams saw considerable movement in the updated rankings. Illinois made a significant leap, climbing 27 spots to land at 17. Rutgers and Maryland also made impressive gains, moving up 11 and 10 spots, respectively. On the other end, USC saw a dramatic fall, dropping 26 spots to number 51. Indiana, despite having the 18th-ranked offense, fell 8 spots, indicating areas for improvement on the defensive side, ranked at 52.
The top ten teams in these updated projections feature Houston holding the top spot, followed by Duke and Iowa State. Kansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina round out the top six, while Auburn, Alabama, Gonzaga, and Arizona complete the top ten rankings.
