Boston salutes Celtics’ record 18th NBA championship with parade

Boston Celebrates Celtics’ 18th Championship with Classic Duck Boat Parade

On June 21, 2024, the Boston Celtics celebrated their 18th NBA championship with a massive duck boat parade, a tradition synonymous with the city’s sports successes. The parade marked the 13th championship by Boston’s top professional teams this century. After defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the NBA Finals, Celtic fans filled the streets to honor their team’s historic achievement, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most league titles.

Parade festivities began at TD Garden and weaved through iconic city landmarks, including Causeway Street, City Hall, Boston Common, and Boylston Street, ending at Hynes Convention Center. Fans celebrated with homemade signs and exuberant cheers, often climbing light posts to catch a glimpse of their heroes. Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, along with his family, walked amidst a sea of supporters, carrying the Larry O’Brien Trophy and the newly minted championship banner, symbolizing the team’s triumphant season.

The celebration wasn’t confined to the parade. Inside TD Garden, a special rally saw All-Star players like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown sharing moments with fans. Since their return from Miami, coach Joe Mazzulla allowed fans close interactions with the trophy in Boston’s North End. With the core lineup of Tatum, Brown, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis under contract for next season, the Celtics are poised to defend their title. The city of Boston stood united, proudly chanting their triumph, ready to keep the duck boats gassed up for future celebrations.
