Historic Stolen Base Streak Snapped: Shohei Ohtani’s 36-Game Run Ends Against Mets in NLCS

Shohei Ohtani stolen base streak ends at 36 in NLCS vs. Mets

Shohei Ohtani’s remarkable stolen base streak came to an unexpected halt at 36 attempts during the NL Championship Series against the New York Mets. This marked his first caught stealing in nearly three months, a surprising turn for the two-way sensation.

In a pivotal moment during Sunday’s game, Ohtani was thrown out while attempting to steal second base by Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez, concluding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ second inning.

Prior to this game, Ohtani had not been caught stealing since July 22, when San Francisco’s Patrick Bailey successfully nabbed him at second base.

Earlier in the game, Ohtani’s RBI single against Mets pitcher Kodai Senga had given the Dodgers a commanding 3-0 lead, demonstrating his offensive prowess.

Ohtani has made history as the first player to achieve a 50-50 season, boasting a batting average of .310, leading the National League with 54 home runs and 130 RBIs, while successfully stealing 59 bases out of 63 attempts.

Despite his impressive contributions at the plate and on the bases, the two-way star did not take the mound this year due to recovery from elbow surgery.
