Utah State has dismissed head coach Blake Anderson, effective immediately, amid serious allegations and rule violations. The institution cited Anderson’s disregard for Title IX regulations and failures in upholding the university’s academic values as main reasons. This decision came after an investigation into an April 2023 domestic violence incident involving Anderson.
The school originally revealed its intention to remove Anderson on July 2. Alongside Anderson, associate vice president Jerry Bovee and football director Austin Albrecht were also fired for similar policy violations. Utah State’s defensive coordinator, Nate Dreiling, will step in as interim head coach for the upcoming season.
Anderson’s legal team, led by attorney Tom Mars, plans to challenge the dismissal, arguing it violates the terms of his employment contract and the covenant of good faith. Anderson, who previously coached at Arkansas State, led Utah State to an 11-3 record and a Mountain West championship in his first year but struggled in subsequent seasons. Utah State will kick off their season against Robert Morris on Aug. 31.
