Tightness Forces Royce Lewis Out of Game
Minnesota Twins third baseman, Royce Lewis, had to exit Tuesday night’s game against Detroit due to tightness in his left groin. He was replaced in the field during the sixth inning after feeling incapable of running even at half-speed. His discomfort became evident following a two-run double off Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Manager Rocco Baldelli commented, "He just wasn’t moving the way that he needs to move in the game."
The Twins listed Lewis’ status as day-to-day, but post-game assessments revealed he still experienced tightness and anticipated getting an MRI for a more precise diagnosis. Despite the team’s 5-3 victory, Lewis remained pessimistic about his condition. "Probably not very optimistic, to be honest with you," he noted, apprehensive after a history of severe injuries that have hindered his career progress.
Lewis has often battled setbacks since being the first overall pick in the 2017 draft. Missing 58 games earlier this season due to a partially torn quadriceps and undergoing two prior ACL surgeries on the same leg, his frustration is palpable. Remarkably, he’s recorded 31 homers and 80 RBIs in just 100 major league games, including postseason appearances. Reflecting on his injuries, Lewis said, "What I can control, I’m very happy about, but this is out of my control. I have no idea."
