Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. tragically passed away in an apparent drowning accident at Porcupine Reservoir on Saturday. Authorities initiated a search after reports indicated a young man had gone cliff diving and failed to resurface. Seldon’s body was found at 9:05 p.m., following an extensive search involving a dive team and helicopter. Witnesses confirmed it was a tragic accident.
Utah State University and its football program are mourning Seldon’s loss. Interim head coach Nate Dreiling, who previously coached Seldon at New Mexico State, expressed his grief, describing him as an exceptional person and teammate. Seldon, a team captain at New Mexico State, had recorded 98 tackles and two interceptions over 28 games.
Adding to the sorrow, Utah State’s vice president and director of athletics, Diana Sabau, conveyed heartfelt condolences to Seldon’s family, friends, and teammates. After a distinguished high school career in Belleville, Michigan, Seldon spent two years at Michigan before joining New Mexico State in 2022 and transferring to Utah State earlier this year.
