The Detroit Lions have established themselves as a formidable force in the NFL following their 47-9 victory against the Dallas Cowboys. Tom Brady has expressed strong confidence in Jared Goff and his teammates, suggesting they are serious contenders for the Super Bowl, perhaps even the favorites this season.
When FOX NFL Sunday analyst Howie Long inquired whether the Lions rank as the best team among the eight Brady has observed live this season, the legendary quarterback answered without hesitation.
“Absolutely,” Brady asserted. “Their offensive versatility is impressive. They feature a dynamic duo in the backfield with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, along with inventive play-calling that keeps everyone engaged, including wide receiver Kalif Raymond.”
“Gibbs had a solid game today, though it wasn’t his most electrifying performance. With weapons like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, they have a well-rounded attack. The offensive line is the backbone of this team, dominating the line of scrimmage and giving Goff the time he needs to read the field. Their defense challenges opponents aggressively, playing man coverage and making it tough for quarterbacks to find easy throws,” he added.
“They’re going to be tough to stop. The humility in that locker room is evident. They have players who genuinely support one another. The Lions are a challenging team to defeat.”
Brady shares a unique connection with Goff, as both hail from Northern California and have experienced significant moments in Michigan—Brady at the University of Michigan and Goff with the Lions after a mixed tenure with the Los Angeles Rams.
“I went through a similar journey—growing up in California and moving to Michigan,” Brady told commentator Kevin Burkhardt during the broadcast. “The Michigan fan base is passionate about football. They support Goff much like I felt supported during my time there. That environment toughened me and improved my game. I admire the chip on Goff’s shoulder; he must keep that drive alive, as it’s essential for long-term success.”
“Their ability to run the football is critical,” Brady noted. “I mentioned during the broadcast that a good strategy might be to pass early to open up the run game, as spreading the field forces defenses to adjust.”
As the Cowboys head into their Week 7 bye with a 3-3 record and much to improve, the Lions are preparing for a crucial matchup against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports App.
