Matt Chapman, Giants agree to 6-year, $151 million contract extension

Matt Chapman, the Gold Glove third baseman, has officially signed a six-year contract extension worth $151 million with the San Francisco Giants, set to take effect from 2025 through 2030. This decision means he will forgo the opportunity to enter free agency at the end of the current season.

As part of the agreement, Chapman will receive a $1 million signing bonus on January 15, along with an annual salary of $25 million. Overall, this contract guarantees him a total of $169 million over a span of seven seasons from 2024 to 2030.

Chapman initially joined the Giants in March as a free agent, signing a three-year deal worth $54 million that included options to opt out after the 2024 and 2025 seasons. This previous contract featured a $2 million signing bonus and a $16 million salary for the 2024 season.

Currently, Chapman is batting .247 and leads the Giants in several key offensive categories, including 22 home runs, 69 RBIs, 90 runs scored, and 33 doubles. At 31 years old, he has already earned four Gold Glove awards and boasts a career batting average of .241, with 177 home runs and 495 RBIs accumulated during his time with the Oakland Athletics (2017-2021), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-2023), and the Giants.

In 2019, he was recognized as an All-Star, adding to his impressive resume as one of the premier defenders and hitters in Major League Baseball.
