Steve McNair: Remembering the Tragic Loss 15 Years Later

Fifteen years ago, former NFL quarterback Steve McNair met an untimely death at the age of 36. Official reports claimed McNair was murdered by his 20-year-old girlfriend, Jenny Kazemi, who then committed suicide. However, doubts have persisted, suggesting the possibility of a staged double murder. Sports Illustrated delved into this theory with a detailed nine-part podcast.

McNair, the third overall pick in the 1995 draft from Alcorn State, played thirteen seasons in the NFL. He spent eleven years with the Oilers and Titans before ending his career with the Ravens. Notably, he led the Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV, almost securing overtime against the Rams, only to fall short by a mere yard.

McNair’s legacy includes a shared 2003 MVP award with Peyton Manning and over 31,000 career passing yards. He appeared in 161 regular season games, starting 153. Inducted into the Titans Ring of Honor, his No. 9 jersey was retired. For those interested in his life and career, the episode of “A Football Life” dedicated to McNair is highly recommended.
