Jayden Daniels showcased remarkable skill in the Washington Commanders’ thrilling 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. The rookie quarterback not only threw for two touchdowns but also added a rushing score, demonstrating his versatility and poise under pressure.
Completing 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards, Daniels set a new NFL rookie record with a completion percentage of 91.3%. His accuracy and decision-making were pivotal in leading the Commanders (2-1) to a commanding performance.
The Commanders scored on every possession, except for kneel-downs at the end of each half, and have impressively not punted or turned the ball over in their last two games. This offensive efficiency is a testament to their preparation and execution.
In a historic twist, neither team punted or turned the ball over, marking the first occurrence of this in the Super Bowl era. This statistic highlights the offensive firepower displayed by both squads.
Joe Burrow, the Bengals’ quarterback, threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns but struggled to keep pace with the Commanders. With a record of 0-3, Cincinnati is experiencing its worst start since the 2019 season, when they lost their first 11 games.
Daniels made a memorable mark with his first career touchdown pass, connecting with eligible tackle Trent Scott for a 1-yard score to kick off the second half. This was the second consecutive game where the Bengals allowed a touchdown to a lineman. Additionally, Daniels delivered a clutch 27-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin with just 2:10 left in the game, sealing the victory for Washington.
