Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen is set to make history as he becomes the first major leaguer to play in the same game for both the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays. This significant moment will occur on Monday when he dons the Red Sox uniform in a suspended game originally played on June 26.
“He’s catching. Let’s make history,” declared Boston manager Alex Cora, emphasizing the uniqueness of the occasion just before the Red Sox faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-game series.
The game in question was interrupted by rain in the second inning, halting Jansen’s at-bat for the Blue Jays. It has now been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader, allowing him to take the field as a member of the Red Sox.
Acquired in a trade on July 27, Jansen, who is 29 years old, brings valuable experience to the Red Sox roster. His addition was a strategic move to bolster the team’s catching depth.
Previously, Reese McGuire served as Boston’s catcher during the suspended game. Following Jansen’s arrival, McGuire was assigned to Triple-A Worcester, marking a shift in the Red Sox’s catching lineup.
Since joining the Red Sox, Jansen has made a notable impact, batting .257 with two home runs across 13 games. His performance will be closely watched as he steps into this historic role.
