The Tampa Bay Rays have officially recalled Junior Caminero, recognized as the No. 2 prospect in Major League Baseball, from Triple-A Durham as of Tuesday.
During his time at Durham, Caminero showcased his skills with a batting average of .276, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 34 runs over 53 games. However, the young infielder, at just 21 years old, faced challenges this season with two separate quadriceps injuries that sidelined him.
Last year, Caminero appeared in seven games for the Rays, where he recorded a batting average of .235, including one home run and seven RBIs. His return to the major league roster brings anticipation for his development as a key player for the team.
In a corresponding move, Curtis Mead has been optioned back to Durham. Mead’s performance included a batting average of .238, with one home run and seven RBIs during his time with the Rays.
