FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Gracyn Sawchyn, a 19-year-old Florida Panthers center prospect, knows where he needs to improve. After being selected 63rd overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Sawchyn emphasizes his focus on gaining strength and weight this summer. Despite being listed at just 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, he impresses by playing larger than his size.
Impressively, Sawchyn’s commitment to the game is evident. During his initial training camp, he quickly gained attention for his willingness to initiate contact, a trait noticed by veteran forward Sam Reinhart. This fearless approach earned him opportunities to compete alongside seasoned players, reflecting his potential and tenacity despite his age.
Returning to the WHL, Sawchyn showcased his playmaking abilities with 21 points in 17 games for Seattle and later excelled with Edmonton. He ended the season with Florida’s AHL team but didn’t play. Now, he’s preparing for another shot at the rookie tournament and training camp, eager to make a lasting impression before heading back to Edmonton for potentially his final junior season.
