New Kansas City Royals closer Carlos Estévez is set to make his highly anticipated spring training debut this Friday, following a successful live batting practice session earlier this week.
After experiencing some lower back tightness, Estévez received encouraging news from Royals manager Matt Quatraro, who confirmed that the recent bullpen session went smoothly. This positive development paves the way for Estévez to face the Los Angeles Angels in his upcoming appearance.
At 32 years old, Estévez joined the Royals on a two-year contract worth $22 million, following an impressive 2022 season where he recorded a 2.45 ERA with 26 saves in 31 opportunities across 54 games with the Angels and Philadelphia Phillies, who acquired him mid-season.
Two years ago, Estévez earned All-Star honors while playing for the Angels, finishing with a 3.90 ERA in 63 appearances. He is expected to be fully ready for the opening day, barring any unforeseen setbacks.
