Logan Thompson has been traded to the Washington Capitals from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for third-round picks in the 2024 and 2025 NHL Drafts. At 27, the goalie compiled a record of 25-14-5 with a 2.70 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage, and one shutout in 46 regular-season games last season. He also posted a 2-2 record in the playoffs with a 2.35 GAA and .921 save percentage.
Thompson, initially an undrafted free agent signed by Vegas in July 2020, held an autograph session in Las Vegas shortly after the trade was announced. “I’ve never been traded before in juniors or pro, so a lot of emotions still running through me,” he said. He acknowledged the Golden Knights for providing his NHL chance and cherishes his time there.
Washington GM Brian MacLellan highlighted the move as a strategic addition, especially after trading Darcy Kuemper to the Los Angeles Kings. Thompson participated in the Capitals’ development camp in 2018 and 2019, making his return to the organization a full-circle moment for the goalie.
