The Glazer family, owners of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have committed an additional $1 million to support hurricane relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Milton’s devastation in Tampa Bay and its neighboring regions.
This generous donation aims to assist local nonprofit organizations that are working tirelessly to aid those most affected by Hurricane Milton. This marks the second time in recent weeks that the Glazer family has made a $1 million contribution for hurricane relief, having previously donated a similar amount following Hurricane Helene’s impact in September.
In their statement, the Glazer family expressed their commitment to the community, saying, “The Tampa Bay region has experienced traumatic hardships caused by recent Hurricanes Milton and Helene. In times like these, our community unites to provide the support and resources desperately needed. We are dedicated to backing local agencies that deliver essential services to our neighbors in need. Despite recent challenges, our resilient Tampa Bay community will rise and flourish once again.”
Hurricanes Helene and Milton rank among the deadliest and costliest storms in U.S. history. As of Thursday, the toll stands at over 280 lives lost due to the destruction caused by these hurricanes, with damages from each storm projected to exceed $50 billion.
Hurricane Milton also inflicted significant damage on Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, resulting in the MLB team being unable to host games there at the start of the 2025 season. This situation complicates matters as the Rays await the completion of a new stadium set to open in 2026.
In addition to the Glazer family’s contributions, several current and former Buccaneers players have joined the relief efforts for both hurricanes. Former quarterback Tom Brady, now a lead NFL analyst for FOX Sports, has pledged $100,000 to provide essentials like food, water, and first aid to those affected by Hurricane Milton, with Gopuff matching his donation.
Brady’s former teammates, wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, have also committed to the cause, each donating $50,000 through their charitable foundations.
The Buccaneers traveled to New Orleans early last week for their away game against the Saints. Coach Todd Bowles praised the Glazer family for their support, highlighting their efforts to assist the team and the Tampa Bay community by allowing staff members to bring family and pets along on their trip.
“They’ve been outstanding,” Bowles remarked. “You can see the impact they have on the community in every way, whether it’s related to a hurricane or not. With Milton and Helene, they’ve excelled in helping the team and their families during this time. They deserve more recognition for their contributions to this city, and I think they are truly remarkable.”
