FSU Hires Jake Morton as Assistant Coach
Florida State University’s basketball team officially added Jake Morton to its coaching staff on June 21st. Morton, formerly an assistant coach at East Carolina, steps in to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Steve Smith to Boston College. Head Coach Leonard Hamilton highlighted Morton’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the game, predicting an immediate positive impact on the team.
Morton brings notable credentials to FSU, having significantly contributed to successful campaigns at various institutions. His tenure at East Carolina saw the Pirates win 31 games over two seasons, while his previous role at Jacksonville State included leading the team to a 21-11 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Morton’s coaching record also includes time at other colleges where he consistently helped teams achieve remarkable results.
Beyond his professional experience, Morton has a personal history with Hamilton, having played for him at the University of Miami. There, he developed a reputation for strong defensive play and leadership, which he later took to the international stage in Israel. Morton’s return to the ACC and collaboration with Hamilton is anticipated to bring valuable insights and foster player development at Florida State.
