Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson has made it clear that the trade from the Washington Commanders is not something he is taking personally — at least not yet.
“It was a shock, you know?” Dotson expressed after Philadelphia’s preseason match against Minnesota on Saturday. “Just because all I know in the NFL is [the] Washington Commanders. But at the end of the day, you know it’s a business. I understand that, very much so. … I’m not gonna take it personal until I see Washington [in the regular season].”
The Eagles traded a 2025 third-round draft pick along with two seventh-rounders for Dotson and a fifth-round pick earlier this week.
Dotson was selected by Washington as the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft after a standout career at Penn State. In his debut season, he led the Commanders with seven receiving touchdowns, averaging 14.9 yards per catch. Across his two seasons in Washington, he averaged 42 receptions, 520.5 yards, and 5.5 touchdowns per year.
Joining the Eagles, Dotson steps into a wide receiver lineup that features three-time Pro Bowler A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who has consistently averaged over 1,059 receiving yards per season in his three-year NFL career.
Dotson expressed his excitement about being part of what he considers the most talented team he has ever joined. He feels a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to play in Philadelphia.
“I got goosebumps leaving the field today,” Dotson shared. “Growing up only an hour or an hour and a half away from here, you understand the passion. You understand how much people care about the Eagles. Seeing the fans go crazy literally after a third preseason game, it was exciting. It got me a little excited to be here.”
The Eagles and Dotson are set to face the Commanders twice this season, with matchups scheduled in Philadelphia on November 14 and in Washington on December 22 (1 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app).
