NBCUniversal is on the brink of completing an 11-year rights agreement to broadcast NBA games on NBC and Peacock, aiming to begin in the 2025-2026 season. This deal promises 100 NBA games each regular season, more than any existing media partner currently offers. In light of the potential new schedule, NBC plans to air Sunday and Tuesday games, while Peacock will stream two games each Monday.
Comcast executives see this deal as a significant opportunity to boost subscriptions to Peacock, leveraging NBC’s broad reach and consumer access. The company is expected to invest $2.5 billion annually for these rights, showing a stronger commitment than its current NFL deal. While Warner Bros. Discovery’s right to match terms poses a potential hurdle, Comcast remains confident in securing the deal.
As part of this arrangement, NBC will also broadcast the NBA All-Star Game, season openers, and special doubleheaders, including Martin Luther King Day games. The deal extends beyond the NBA, incorporating over 50 WNBA games from the regular season and playoffs, steaming across Peacock, NBC, and USA Network.
