Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert returned to practice on Monday after missing two weeks due to a foot injury.
Herbert had been sidelined with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot, which required him to wear a walking boot for a fortnight.
Although the fifth-year quarterback did not participate in full-team drills, he was active during 7-on-7 sessions, showcasing his skills.
Coach Jim Harbaugh expressed his delight at Herbert’s return, noting his impressive presence on the field in the iconic yellow No. 10 practice jersey.
“I felt like music should be playing. I thought I heard music. Voices of angels, maybe,” Harbaugh remarked. “It felt great. He looked great with a capital G. No drop-off, pinpoint accuracy, really good,” he added.
While in the walking boot, Herbert continued to attend team meetings and engage in conditioning exercises. He is expected to gradually ramp up his participation as the Chargers prepare for their season opener on September 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
In addition to monitoring Herbert’s recovery, the Chargers are also focused on identifying a reliable backup quarterback.
Easton Stick, who filled in for Herbert during four games last season after he sustained a finger injury, has faced challenges in the preseason. In two games against the Seattle Seahawks and Rams, Stick has struggled, committing three turnovers and leading the team to only three field goals.
Harbaugh confirmed that Stick will start in the upcoming preseason finale against Dallas.
Luis Perez, who joined the team on August 7, played the entire second half against the Rams last Saturday. Meanwhile, Max Duggan, a seventh-round pick last year, was waived on Monday.
