Long Beach, Calif., mourns the death of Myke Scholl, a Long Beach State Men’s Basketball assistant coach with ten years at the school. Known globally for his basketball expertise, Scholl’s contribution to the team was immense, highlighted by a Big West regular season title in 2022. Remarkably, during his time, nine players earned First Team All-Big West honors, including Colin Slater, the Big West Player of the Year in 2022.
Scholl’s influence extended beyond the basketball court. On campus, he was an active member of the President’s Equity and Change Commission. This commission aims to integrate diversity, equity, and educational inclusion throughout the university’s operations. His efforts in transforming systemic inequities made a considerable impact on the community.
Globally, Scholl’s basketball journey took him to various countries, spearheading initiatives like the “Love Life” HIV and AIDS prevention campaign in South Africa. Before joining Long Beach State, he spent years coaching international teams and working as a scout for the Detroit Pistons. He recently accepted a role with Pacific Men’s Basketball, marking another chapter in his illustrious career.
