Donovan Mitchell Agrees to Three-Year Extension with Cavaliers
Donovan Mitchell, the All-Star guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, has secured a three-year, $150.3 million contract extension that includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. This agreement ensures Mitchell’s continued presence with the team beyond the next season, marking a total of $185 million over four years. The extension aligns with Mitchell’s goal to reach the league’s 10-year service threshold, potentially leading to a more lucrative five-year deal in 2027.
Notably, Mitchell and his agent, Austin Brown of CAA Basketball, reached the agreement with the Cavaliers’ president of basketball operations, Koby Altman, over the weekend in Los Angeles. Mitchell’s commitment to the Cavaliers stems from his belief in the organization’s capability to evolve into championship contenders. Since joining the Cavaliers from the Utah Jazz, Mitchell has helped the team make consecutive playoff appearances, including an impressive advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals last season.
During the 2023-24 season, Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, joining LeBron James as the only players in franchise history to do so in multiple seasons. He also posted career highs in assists (6.1) and steals (1.8), ranking third in steals per game and sixth in deflections across the league. At 27, Mitchell has been an All-Star for five consecutive seasons and is the first guard to average at least 20 points per game in each of his first seven NBA seasons since Allen Iverson.
