Brewers Strengthen Rotation with Acquisition of RHP Aaron Civale from Rays

Milwaukee made a significant move Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays to bolster their injury-plagued starting rotation. With young standouts on the 60-day injured list, Civale aims to bring stability, despite a 5.17 ERA over 27 starts since joining Tampa Bay. In return, Tampa Bay receives infield prospect Gregory Barrios, a promising talent hitting .317 in High-A.

Civale, 29, joined the Rays last season from Cleveland in exchange for Kyle Manzardo and now looks to aid the Brewers in maintaining their six-game lead in the National League Central. Surpassing his career-best innings total, Civale adds depth to Milwaukee’s lineup, which has heavily relied on Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea, rookie Tobias Myers, and Bryse Wilson. He is set to reach free agency after the 2025 season.

Tampa Bay, sitting three games behind in the American League wild-card race, strengthens their farm system with Barrios while preparing to receive reinforcements from their injured list before 2025. With a rotation featuring Zach Eflin, Taj Bradley, and others, the Rays might continue to make strategic trades. Barrios adds to a robust infield lineup, enhancing the team’s depth and future prospects.
