NHL Offseason Moves Highlight Player Movement 2023-24
The 2023-24 NHL offseason has been brisk with significant trades and signings, even before the Florida Panthers lifted the Stanley Cup. Teams have been actively strengthening their rosters, leaving only a few productive veterans like Daniel Sprong, James van Riemsdyk, and Kevin Shattenkirk unsigned.
The Chicago Blackhawks stood out in boosting their offense, adding Teuvo Teravainen and Tyler Bertuzzi, both of whom scored 20-plus goals last season. The porous defense, which allowed the fifth-most shots in the league, should improve with veteran TJ Brodie joining the ranks. Additionally, Laurent Brossoit will enhance the goaltending performance alongside Petr Mrazek.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning experienced both gains and losses, such as acquiring Jake Guentzel from the Carolina Hurricanes, yet bidding farewell to Steven Stamkos. Despite these changes, Tampa Bay’s net goals above replacement (GAR) remained balanced, ranking 16th out of 32 teams. The impact of these moves will become clearer as the new season unfolds.
