Aaron Gordon agrees to a four-year, $133 million contract extension with the Denver Nuggets, solidifying his role as a key player on the team. This agreement was reached late Monday night, marking another significant step in the Nuggets’ strategy to retain their core talent.
The confirmation of this deal came from Gordon’s representatives, Calvin Andrews and Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, alongside his older sister, Elise Gordon. This contract extension comes on the heels of the Nuggets’ historic championship win during the 2022-23 season, where Gordon played a crucial role.
This contract follows a month after the Nuggets secured point guard Jamal Murray with a four-year, $208 million maximum extension. With three-time MVP Nikola Jokic already locked in through the 2026-27 season and sharpshooter Michael Porter Jr. signed through the same period, the Nuggets are building a formidable roster.
Entering his 11th NBA season, Gordon averaged 13.9 points and 6.5 rebounds last year, closely aligning with his career averages of 13.5 points and 6.3 rebounds. His consistent performance has made him a reliable asset for head coach Michael Malone.
Originally drafted by the Orlando Magic with the fourth overall pick in 2014 out of Arizona, Gordon was traded to the Nuggets in March 2021. Since then, he has transformed into a pivotal figure within the team’s lineup.
This season, Gordon will wear No. 32 to honor his late brother, Drew, who tragically passed away in an auto accident in Oregon this spring. This personal tribute adds a layer of significance to his new contract.
During media day, Gordon expressed gratitude for the support he received from his teammates during this difficult time. He stated, “These guys have been there for me every step of the way. These guys have really developed into people that I would call my brothers.”
The Denver Nuggets are set to kick off their season on Thursday night at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, with high hopes for another successful campaign.
