Lakers coach JJ Redick says his family evacuated due to LA wildfires: 'People are freaking out'

Lakers coach JJ Redick revealed that his family was among those in Southern California who had to evacuate their homes on Tuesday due to a fierce wildfire fueled by strong winds around Los Angeles.

The blaze rapidly spread through the hillside community of Pacific Palisades, where Redick resides alongside various celebrities, destroying homes and issuing evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents.

As the Lakers prepared to face the Mavericks in Dallas, Redick took a moment to address the serious situation impacting his family and neighbors.

“I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Palisades right now,” Redick stated before the Lakers’ 118-97 defeat against the Mavericks. “That’s my home.”

“My family, my wife’s family, even her twin sister, have all had to evacuate. I know many are feeling anxious right now, including my loved ones. With the winds picking up tonight, it’s understandable that people are scared. I just want to acknowledge that. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone, and I hope everyone remains safe.”

According to TNT’s broadcast, the Lakers’ return flight to Los Angeles faced delays. Nonetheless, the team confirmed that the flight was still on track for Tuesday night, despite the possibility of smoke-filled skies necessitating alternate routes.

Winds were forecasted to intensify overnight and persist for several days, producing isolated gusts that could exceed 100 mph (160 kph) in mountainous and foothill areas, including regions that have not seen significant rainfall in months.
