Former UMaine Basketball Star Joins Coaching Team

Tanesha Sutton Returns to UMaine as Assistant Coach

Tanesha Sutton, a former standout player, is returning to the University of Maine as an assistant coach. She played a key role in leading UMaine’s women’s basketball team to consecutive America East championships in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Sutton will replace Gaddy Lefft, who joined Bryant University.

A Philadelphia native, Sutton transferred to UMaine from Duquesne University. During her time at UMaine, she earned two-time All-America East selections and averaged 11.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 98 games. Post-UMaine, she played professionally in Europe and started her coaching career at the Community College of Philadelphia.

UMaine’s head coach, Amy Vachon, expressed enthusiasm for Sutton’s return, emphasizing her strong work ethic and passion for the program. Sutton joins a coaching team dedicated to mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court.
