5 USMNT Stars Who Need a Transfer to Elevate Their Game!

5 USMNT players who could benefit from a move during transfer window

Five U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) players could benefit from a move during the ongoing transfer window. As the European football season kicks off this weekend, uncertainty looms for these athletes regarding their club futures before the transfer deadline on August 30.

Here are the players to watch for potential transfers.

M Weston McKennie, 25, Juventus (Italy)

Weston McKennie finds himself in limbo as Juventus prepares for its Serie A opener against Como. The dynamic midfielder had a standout season, contributing 10 assists across competitions. However, after failing to secure a contract extension, the club is looking to sell before the window closes. Reports suggest a possible transfer to Fiorentina is still in play, while interest from AC Milan has waned. Speculation about a move to Inter Miami persists, raising questions about his future in the U.S. league.

D Mark McKenzie, 25, Genk (Belgium)

Mark McKenzie is poised for a potential leap to a higher level after four years with Genk. German media outlets are reporting interest from several Bundesliga teams, including Mainz, Stuttgart, and Wolfsburg. Stuttgart currently appears to be leading the charge. However, breaking into the starting lineup may prove challenging due to the club’s recent acquisitions of other defenders. A successful stint at Stuttgart could enhance his prospects for the national team.

M/F Giovanni Reyna, 21, Borussia Dortmund (Germany)

Giovanni Reyna’s future at Borussia Dortmund seemed uncertain earlier this year when he was loaned to Nottingham Forest. Unfortunately, his playing time was limited in England, and he returned to a Dortmund squad that reached the Champions League final without him. Initially expected to depart this summer, he may remain under new coach Nuri Şahin. With key players like Marco Reus leaving, Reyna could find more opportunities to shine at a club known for developing talent.

M Tanner Tessmann, 22, Venezia (Italy)

Tanner Tessmann, captain of the U.S. U-23 team that advanced in the Paris Olympics, is on the radar of several clubs after helping Venezia gain promotion to Serie A. His impressive performances have attracted interest from Italian giants like Inter Milan and Fiorentina, although no deals have materialized yet. Other clubs, including Torino and English teams like Everton and Ipswich Town, are also monitoring him. However, securing a work permit in England may be a hurdle for the young midfielder.

GK Matt Turner, 30, Nottingham Forest (England)

Matt Turner, the U.S. national team’s starting goalkeeper, faces a challenge as he enters the new season third on Nottingham Forest’s depth chart. After the club signed Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, Turner finds himself in search of regular playing time. He expressed his frustration about his club situation after the Copa América. Reports indicate that a Bundesliga club is considering him, making a loan move likely for the upcoming season to ensure he remains match-fit.
