Tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, the 2022-23 SEC Championship game will be played between the LSU Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Tigers have a chance to shake up the CFP rankings and college football bowl game schedule by winning the SEC with three losses. That outcome is unlikely, however, and is reflected in tomorrow’s college football betting odds.
LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs
- Scoring: LSU +17.5, UGA -17.5
- Money line: LSU +600, UGA -950
- Over/Under: 52.0
LSU stumbled early in the season against the Florida State Seminoles and lost a conference game to the Tennessee Volunteers mid-year, but then rallied to defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide and take a commanding lead in the SEC West.
The Tigers worked their way back into the National Championship picture, earning a ranking of 6 and perhaps one conference title away from inclusion in the CFP.
Those hopes were dashed when the Tigers lost to the Texas A&M Aggies for a third time, but they still find themselves in the SEC championship game and facing the best team in the nation — the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs.
The above betting line for the SEC championship game favors the Bulldogs with a -17.5 point spread, an unusually large margin for an often competitive pairing of top collegiate football programs.
The Bulldogs are undoubtedly the best team in the country according to the rankings and futures for CFP betting. There’s a good chance Georgia could qualify as one of the bottom four teams in the college football playoffs even if they lose to LSU.
In fact, according to current CFP ratings published at Bovada Sportsbook, only 6 NCAAF programs remain in contention for a national championship.
Odds for the 2022-2023 CFP National Championship
- Georgia (#1) -150
- Michigan (#2) +300
- State of Ohio (#5) +800
- TCU (#3) +1000
- USC +1000
- Alabama (#6) +6,000
These College Football Playoffs National Championship betting odds reflect two realities — the LSU Tigers have no chance of beating the Georgia Bulldogs, and even if they win, they won’t be included in the final CFP bracket.
Somehow the Alabama Crimson Tide are still players for the CFP, but how? Perhaps a USC Trojans loss to the Utah Utes tonight combined with a TCU Horned Frogs loss to the Kansas State Wildcats could pave the way for Alabama tomorrow.
Utah Utes vs. USC Trojans: Pac-12 Championship Game
- Distribution: Utah +3.0, USC -3.0
- Money line: Utah +130, USC -150
- Over/Under: 67.0
Kansas State Wildcats vs. TCU Horned Frogs: Big 12 Championship Game
- Spread: KSU +2.5, TCU -2.5
- Moneyline: KSU +115, TCU -135
- Over/Under: 62.0
It’s a win for TCU, but USC can’t pull it off unless the Horned Frogs lose. Both games offer betting lines with margins of a field goal or less, so TCU and USC are by no means obvious favorites.
If you don’t like these pre-game lines, in-game betting begins after kick-off and lasts into the fourth quarter in most cases. The National Championship Futures remain on the boards until the CFP Semifinals, but by then two teams will have been removed from the line.
