The Pistons-Timberwolves fight spilled into the crowd during Sunday’s game, resulting in the ejection of five players and two coaches at Target Center.
In the early moments of the second quarter, Timberwolves center Naz Reid was fouled by Pistons forward Ron Holland II while driving to the basket. Reid reacted strongly to the foul, gesturing at Holland and exchanging words.
Tensions escalated when Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo began to push Holland, who initially was unaware of DiVincenzo’s approach. Once Holland turned to face him, the two engaged in a physical struggle that led them tumbling into the front row of the stands.
Before long, all ten players on the court, along with several coaches and trainers, were involved in the chaotic scene. Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Timberwolves assistant Pablo Prigioni were seen shouting at each other and required intervention from team staff to be separated.
At the time of the altercation, the Pistons were leading 39-29 with 8:36 left in the second quarter, as both teams vie for playoff positioning. Just moments before the fight, Stewart had received a technical foul for a hard bump on DiVincenzo after the whistle.
The incident unfolded a mere 20 feet away from the new Timberwolves owner, Alex Rodriguez, who left his courtside seat to assist a fan who found themselves caught in the fracas.
This is a developing story.
