Anthony Davis will miss “multiple weeks” with an adductor strain, following a standout performance in his debut with the Dallas Mavericks. This unfortunate setback means Mavericks fans may not see their new star on the court for some time.
In the Mavericks’ Saturday victory against the Houston Rockets, Davis showcased his skills, recording 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks. However, his promising start was cut short as he sustained the injury during the game, according to reports from ESPN.
The Mavericks acquired Davis in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, sending superstar Luka Dončić to Los Angeles. This trade was expected to bolster Dallas’s chances in the Western Conference.
Before the trade, Davis had been an impressive player, averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game during his five-plus seasons with the Lakers. He is a five-time All-NBA and All-Defensive honoree, adding significant experience to the Mavericks.
At 31 years old, Davis has faced several injury challenges in recent years, including issues with his knee, foot, and calf. This latest injury adds to the concerns about his durability moving forward.
Currently, the Mavericks hold a record of 28-25, placing them in the eighth seed in the competitive Western Conference. The team will need to adjust to Davis’s absence as they strive to maintain their playoff position.
