Pelicans find a trade partner for Brandon Ingram, reportedly sending him to Raptors

The New Orleans Pelicans have found a trade partner for Brandon Ingram, sending the talented forward to the Toronto Raptors, as reported by ESPN. In exchange, the Raptors will provide Bruce Brown Jr., Kelly Olynyk, along with a first-round and a second-round pick to the Pelicans.

The first-round pick included in the deal is the Pacers’ top-four protected selection for 2026, according to TSN.

Brandon Ingram, a former NBA All-Star, is currently in the final year of a five-year, $158 million contract. His impending free agency complicated the Pelicans’ efforts to find a trading partner, despite actively shopping him since last summer.

Ingram’s injury history has also been a concern, as he has participated in only 18 games this season due to an ankle issue. When healthy, he has averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, with shooting splits of 46.5% from the field, 37.4% from three-point range, and 85.5% from the free-throw line. Throughout his career, he has maintained an average of 19.5 points per game.

At 27 years old, Ingram has spent over five seasons with the Pelicans after being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers, where he began his career for three seasons.

Bruce Brown Jr., who celebrated a championship victory with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, will join his sixth team in seven NBA seasons. He is recognized for his defensive skills and his ability to energize the bench. Kelly Olynyk, a Toronto native, will also be joining the Pelicans, marking his seventh team since he was drafted as a first-round pick by the Boston Celtics in 2013.

Currently, the Pelicans sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with a record of 12-39, while the Raptors are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference at 16-35.
