Golden Globes Odds Favor Austin Butler Over Brendan Fraser

Whale's Brendan Fraser and Elvis' Austin Butler received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor

  • The 80th Golden Globes begins tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC
  • The 2023 Golden Globes will be hosted by Jerrod Carmichael

The Whale’s Brendan Fraser topped the Golden Globes odds for best actor in a drama film, but in the last few weeks since the lines debuted, he’s been surpassed by Austin Butler, who played the title role in 2022’s Elvis.

Two weeks ago, Fraser appeared to be the favorite to win the Golden Globe for Best Actor with a moneyline of -135. On the day of the ceremony, Butler became a big favorite and is now 500 points ahead of Fraser in the money line odds of winning.

Best Actor: Drama

  • Austin Butler-Elvis Presley-400
  • Brendan Fraser – The Whale +300
  • Bill Nighy – Housing +1200
  • Jeremy Pope – The Inspection +2000
  • Hugh Jackman – The Son +2200

The initial lines on Golden Globes betting sites are based on the odds maker’s calculations using their own unique formula. After bet lines are published, money line odds are affected by the number of bets placed on each outcome.

Simply put, entertainment bettors must have given Austin Butler’s odds plenty of action to create such a sudden and massive rift between him and Fraser, who still seems like a lock to win the Best Actor Oscar.

One element we always look for when betting on an awards show at legal entertainment sportsbooks is the potential for a single movie to sweep the evening.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is a film that has a legitimate shot at sweeping the 2023 Golden Globes and features underdog winners that allow for high profit margins.

Michelle Yeoh has a -400 probability of winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, 600 points ahead of Babylon’s Margo Robbie.

Best Actress: Musical or Comedy

  • Michelle Yeoh – All everywhere at once -400
  • Margot Robbie – Babylon +400

  • Steven Spielberg & Tony Kushner – The Fabelmans +800
  • Sarah Polley – Females speak +1000

Apparently, the Hollywood Foreign Press enjoyed Everything Everywhere All At Once and showered it with nominations across the board. When a sweep occurs, the two prop bets above offer the best potential for profit.

Stakes of $1 on the film to win best screenplay yield a net profit of $3.25. A $1 bet on Everything Everywhere All At Once to win the Best Director award returns $2.50.
