Julio Jones, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and the all-time leading wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, officially announced his retirement on Friday, marking the end of an illustrious 13-year career in the NFL.
At 36 years old, Jones did not participate in the 2024 season after a stint in 2023 with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played in 11 games, starting four, and recorded 11 receptions for 74 yards along with four touchdowns.
From 2011 to 2021, Jones was a standout player for the Atlanta Falcons, where he set franchise records with 848 receptions for an impressive 12,896 yards. His performance included 60 touchdown receptions, earning him two first-team All-Pro selections and three second-team All-Pro honors.
His 60 touchdown catches rank second in Falcons history, just behind Roddy White’s 63.
In total, during his NFL journey, Jones caught 914 passes for 13,703 yards and scored 66 touchdowns. He also had brief tenures with the Tennessee Titans in 2021 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022.
In 2015, Jones led the NFL with a career-high 136 catches for 1,871 yards. He repeated this feat in 2018, again leading the league with 1,677 receiving yards, showcasing his exceptional talent and consistency.
In an emotional farewell shared on social media, Jones expressed gratitude towards Alabama, his former college coach Nick Saban, and the city of Atlanta. “I’m making this announcement today because of the city of Atlanta,” he stated. “Thank you, man. I appreciate y’all. It’s nothing but love. … It was a hell of a ride. … This was for the city, man. I appreciate you all.”
