Best landing spots for New Orleans Pelicans All-Star Brandon Ingram

Brandon Ingram’s future with the New Orleans Pelicans seems uncertain. The question remains whether he will be traded before the February 6 NBA trade deadline or if he will leave in free agency.

Ingram stands out as a reliable scorer in his prime. Over the last six seasons, he has averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 37.2% from three-point range. His ability to score off the dribble, take contact, and shoot efficiently makes him a valuable asset.

Here are three potential trade destinations for Ingram, especially considering the Pelicans’ current struggle with the worst record in the Western Conference at 8-31.

3. Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls find themselves in a challenging position. They are competitive enough to contend for a Play-In Tournament spot but not poor enough to secure a top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Their recent moves, including retaining key players like Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic, signal a desire to compete. Ingram could provide the spark needed to revitalize their offense.

Ingram would offer the Bulls a second reliable scoring option alongside LaVine. Together, they could form a dynamic trio with Coby White, reducing the pressure on LaVine to be the sole hero. His addition would enhance the team’s pace and signal a commitment to contending.

A potential trade could involve sending Vucevic, Ayo Dosunmu, and Jevon Carter to New Orleans in exchange for Ingram and a second-round pick. This deal would provide the Pelicans with a new starting center under contract through next season and a promising wing in Dosunmu, while the Bulls adjust their lineup with Ingram.

However, Chicago may question whether acquiring a player of Ingram’s caliber midseason would significantly impact their playoff aspirations, especially as they currently rank 29th in points allowed per game at 120.8.

2. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers, under first-year head coach JJ Redick, have had a mixed season but remain competitive at 20-16, aiming to avoid the Play-In Tournament. With Anthony Davis performing at a high level and LeBron James still playing like an All-Star, the Lakers recognize the need for additional firepower to advance in the playoffs. Ingram could be the answer.

Ingram’s scoring ability would complement the Lakers’ existing stars. A potential trade could see the Lakers sending Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent to New Orleans in exchange for Ingram and a second-round pick. This move would prepare the Lakers for a future without James while adding a dynamic scorer to their roster.

1. San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are experiencing a resurgence this season, and Ingram could play a key role in maintaining that momentum. With Victor Wembanyama emerging as a potential superstar, along with established scorers like Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell, the Spurs have a promising core.

Ingram’s ability to drive to the basket and draw defensive attention would benefit the Spurs, as they have the perimeter shooters to capitalize on the opportunities he creates. His scoring prowess aligns well with San Antonio’s timeline, positioning him as a veteran leader for a young team.

Acquiring Ingram would allow the Spurs to part ways with players who may not fit their long-term vision. This would provide an opportunity to see how Ingram integrates into head coach Gregg Popovich’s system while also setting the stage for a potential re-signing in the summer. With continued growth from their young talents, Ingram could help elevate the Spurs into Western Conference contention in the coming years.
