The MLB betting action heats up on Friday, September 27, 2024, as the Oakland Athletics face off against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. The first pitch is set for 10:10 PM ET.

A Tough Season for the Athletics

Oakland’s recent game against the Texas Rangers is not included in this preview. The Athletics participated in a three-game series at Oakland Coliseum, winning the first match 5-4 but faltering in the second with a 5-1 loss.

Recently, the A’s have only managed to win three out of their last ten games. They scored a mere 32 runs during this stretch, posting a batting average of .222 and a slugging percentage of .343 with seven home runs in 338 at-bats. The bullpen, however, has shown some resilience, throwing 45.2 innings with a 3.35 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.

JP Sears is expected to pitch for the Athletics on Friday night. The 28-year-old lefty holds an 11-12 record with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 31 starts this season. Unfortunately, he has struggled this month, going 0-3 with a 5.87 ERA in four starts (23 innings pitched).

Sears will be facing the Mariners for the third time this year. He has lost both previous encounters, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks over 12 innings.

Mariners Fighting for Their Playoff Lives

The Seattle Mariners recently celebrated an impressive 8-1 victory over the Houston Astros. This win marked their eighth victory in 12 games, enabling them to clinch a three-game series against the Astros. However, they remain 2.5 games behind the final wild card spot in the American League as of Thursday morning.

During their recent 12-game stretch, the Mariners have been productive, scoring 61 runs and achieving a .282/.357/.443 slash line. Despite this offensive surge, their season-long performance reflects struggles, with a batting average of .224 and ranking 29th in hits.

Seattle has yet to announce their starting pitcher for Friday. Possible candidates include Bryan Woo (8-3; 3.02 ERA), who recently pitched six innings against the Texas Rangers, or Emerson Hancock (4-4; 4.72 ERA), who delivered a solid five-inning performance against the same team last Saturday.

Strategic Betting Insights for Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

Stay updated on the Mariners’ starting pitcher, but the recommendation leans toward Seattle regardless of who takes the mound. The Mariners’ lineup has been on a hot streak, demonstrating a 119 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers over the past ten days (140 plate appearances).

The current Mariners lineup is 17-for-79 with five doubles and a home run against JP Sears, who has surrendered ten earned runs in his last two starts covering 11 innings. If Bryan Woo pitches for Seattle, the Athletics will likely encounter difficulties. The Athletics are 12-for-69 with a home run against Woo and boast a disappointing 42 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers in their last ten days (174 plate appearances).
