2024-25 NBA Title Race: Can the Thunder, Sixers, and Knicks Dethrone the Dominant Celtics?

2024-25 NBA championship odds: Thunder, Sixers, Knicks chasing favored Celtics

2024-25 NBA championship odds favor the Boston Celtics, who recently celebrated their 18th title after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals. However, the road to a repeat championship appears challenging as several formidable teams are poised to compete.

The New York Knicks, a notable rival in the Eastern Conference, made significant offseason moves by acquiring Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets and re-signing OG Anunoby. These additions could bolster their chances against the Celtics.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers stirred excitement by signing nine-time All-Star Paul George to a four-year max contract. Alongside this, they extended Tyrese Maxey, solidifying a core that includes former NBA MVP Joel Embiid. This trio is set to challenge the Celtics and other contenders in the East.

In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder made headlines by signing center Isiah Hartenstein, a move that shifted the odds in their favor. This addition could significantly impact their pursuit of the championship.

As of September 25, here are the NBA title odds according to FanDuel Sportsbook:

In early July, the 76ers were tied with the Denver Nuggets for the third-shortest odds to win the championship. Now, they find themselves in a tie with the Knicks for that position.

However, concerns about player health loom over the 76ers. George has played over 70 games just once in the last five seasons, and Embiid has yet to reach that milestone in any season. Additionally, Maxey missed 12 games last year and 22 during the 2022-23 season.

In the West, the Thunder hold the second position on the odds board, closely followed by the Nuggets, Timberwolves, and Mavericks, all sharing odds of +1100. The competition is heating up as teams prepare for the upcoming season.
