Cristiano Ronaldo gets a new coach as Al-Nassr appoints Stefano Pioli, the former AC Milan manager.
This decision came swiftly after the club parted ways with Luis Castro, who was let go due to a disappointing start to the season, managing only one victory in three league matches.
Pioli, aged 58, boasts an impressive resume, having led AC Milan to the Serie A championship in 2022 and guiding them to the semifinals of the Champions League in 2023 before his departure in May.
Castro’s tenure saw Al-Nassr finish second in the league, trailing behind rivals Al-Hilal, and they also faced defeat in two cup finals against the same team.
His final match in charge ended in a 1-1 stalemate against Iraq’s Al-Shorta during the Asian Champions League Elite tournament.
According to local media reports, Pioli has signed a three-year contract with Al-Nassr, marking a significant milestone as it will be his first coaching role outside Italy.
He is set to make his debut on Friday against Al-Ettifaq, a team managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, adding an intriguing subplot to this new chapter in his coaching career.
