Thierry Henry Steps Down as France Soccer Coach After Historic Olympic Silver Medal Run

France soccer coach Thierry Henry leaves job after winning Olympic silver

France soccer coach Thierry Henry leaves his job after winning Olympic silver, a decision announced on Monday. The French soccer federation indicated that he cited personal reasons for his departure.

Henry, a legendary figure in French football, had a contract that extended into the next season and was set to take charge of the France under-21 team next month for the qualifying matches leading up to the 2025 European Championship.

Philippe Diallo, president of the French soccer federation, expressed gratitude towards Henry, commending his “great professionalism, his rigor, and his love for the blue jersey,” highlighting the impact he had on the team.

Hired a year ago with the Paris Olympics as the focal point, Henry guided the national team to the finals on August 9, where they faced Spain, ultimately losing 5-3 after a gripping extra time at Parc des Princes.

Following the final match, the former Arsenal and Barcelona star provided vague comments regarding his future, hinting at uncertainty about remaining with the under-21 side.

Reflecting on his Olympic journey, Henry stated, “Obtaining the silver medal for my country at the Olympic Games will remain one of the greatest sources of pride of my life,” underscoring the significance of this achievement in his storied career.
